Continuing on from Part 3 of our U.S. and Canada Trip we then travelled north from Yellowstone National Park heading for Canada. After checking out our options for heading north we realised that one of the options, route 191 passed by a Ski resort called Big Sky. The coversation went something like…
“Hey, we’re gonna pass Big Sky”
“What’s Big Sky”
“Some ski resort”
“Worth checking out?”
“Umm… 1 sec… hmm apparently it’s now the biggest ski resort in America”
“We’re off to Big Sky then!”
No helicopter required; on the peak of Lone Mountain (45°16’39.48″N,111°27’0.84″W)
When we got off the Aerial tram the liftie announced that “conditions are particularly sketchy today; if you aren’t experienced in self-arrest techniques I highly advise you do not ski down; catch the tram back down”. Brendan and I looked at each other and discussed what we thought self arresting was. Then slid, somewhat in control, down one of the biggest mountain faces I’ve ever seen.
Look closely and you might spot the chair lift, and the bottom station of the aerial tram (45°16’39.48″N,111°27’0.84″W)
